Matt Poage is an associate in the firm’s Tampa office and focuses on defending maritime clients against wrongful death, personal injury, and property damage claims. He also advises clients on marine regulatory, insurance, and contract issues. He graduated with an engineering degree from the U.S. Naval Academy, where he also played football, rugby, and lacrosse. Matt earned his law degree from Florida State University College of Law; earning the Book Award in Admiralty Law. Matt is a Commander in the navy reserve where he performs monthly training and operational support for the Military Sealift Command. His naval experience includes two sea tours on naval warships, a one year deployment to Afghanistan, a staff tour at U.S. Central Command, one tour as Commanding Officer of a naval reserve unit, and one tour training officer candidates in seamanship and navigation.
Matt is an avid sailor and youth lacrosse coach, and an active member of the Davis Island Yacht Club and the Tampa Bay chapter of the U.S. Naval Academy Alumni Association.
