LINDA G. BURWELL formed National Employment Counsel, PLLC, to personally advise and consult with in-house attorneys, law firms and insurers. She specializes in workplace investigations, mediation, monitoring and consulting. She is a nationally recognized employment law expert with over 25 years’ experience representing companies and is a frequent speaker and author on employment law and risk management issues. Ms. Burwell has served as panel counsel to numerous insurance companies writing Employment Practices Liability Insurance since the inception of EPLI. Ms. Burwell has been recognized as an expert on the EEOC by the EEOC and was invited by the EEOC to testify before the Commission to provide input on the Agency’s Quality Control Plan for investigations and conciliations. She is also an independent mediator for the EEOC. Prior to forming National Employment Counsel, PLLC, she co-owned a certified women owned employment and labor defense firm. While there, she specialized in representing private and public employers in employment and labor matters, including complex and multi-plaintiff litigation in state and federal courts and agencies. As a management-side law firm owner, Ms. Burwell successfully managed the majority of the firm’s litigation and litigated many highly publicized cases. She creatively resolved contentious disputes prior to and during litigation and regularly defused hostile and/or violent employment situations for clients. She is well regarded by the entire employment bar and is known for her practical, direct and effective approach to resolving problems. She is a member of the Michigan Bar and is admitted to practice in Michigan, Ohio, before the Sixth Circuit and the U.S. Supreme Court. Ms. Burwell is an ABA Foundation Fellow and has received numerous awards and honors including being recognized in the Best Lawyers in America, Chambers USA, one of Michigan’s Super Lawyers, Leaders in the Law by Michigan Lawyers Weekly, Top 50 Female Lawyers in Michigan, Top Lawyers by DBusiness Magazine, and she received a lifetime achievement award for Women in Leadership, from the Michigan Business & Professional Association.
