Wal-Mart Stores Inc., the world’s biggest retailer, said today that it has named Rosalind Brewer as CEO of Sam’s Club — the first woman and the first African-American to hold a CEO position at one of the company’s business.

Mr. Buchenhorner concentrates his practice in counseling, infringement studies, preparation, and prosecution of patents in high technology areas, including computer hardware and software, telecommunications, electronics, and bioinformatics. He has prosecuted hundreds of patents, dealing in subject matters such as telecommunications, computer technology, medical devices, and many other high tech areas. Prior to becoming Of Counsel to Rojas Law Firm LLP, Mr. Buchenhorner worked for various technology giants, including AltaVista, Lucent Technologies, IBM and Motorola. He currently serves as Vice President of the University of Miami College of Engineering Alumni Association. He also serves on the Industry Advisory Board for the Florida International University School of Computing and Information Sciences. Recently, he acted as Vice Rapporteur in the 8th Americas Business Forum Workshop on Intellectual Property Rights Chapter of the draft treaty for the Free Trade Area of the Americas. Mr. Buchenhorner holds the highest rating (AV) assigned by Martindale-Hubbell, a peer review rating conferred by fellow attorneys. He is admitted to practice before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida, and the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

The event is co-hosted by the ABA General Practice, Solo & Small Firm Division, the ABA Center for Racial & Ethnic Diversity, and the ABA Commission on Women in the Profession. The Brown Bag Sessions are short, informal educational events on timely GPSolo topics organized by committees and held entirely by teleconference at no cost.

About the Inclusion Initiative

In 2010, 11 major corporations along with NAMWOLF created the Inclusion Initiative. The Initiative is an organized effort to maximize the relationships between corporate legal departments and MWBE law firms throughout the U.S. and was created to have a demonstrable impact on diversity in the legal profession. Through this initiative, these pioneering companies committed to collectively spend $30 million with MWBE law firms in the first year and challenged other companies to follow their lead. The goal was surpassed, with member companies having spent $42.6 million with MWBE last year. This year, the Initiative has grown to 17 companies with a $70 million goal.
